About Prism

Who We Are

Prism is a Catholic LGBT+Ally ministry based in the University Catholic Center (UCC) at the University of Texas at Austin.

Our mission is to create a safe environment for LGBTQ and ally students to learn, discuss, and find support around issues of sexuality and spirituality. We also want to transform the culture of the Catholic Church to be more knowledgeable and welcoming of LGBT people.

What We Do

We have weekly meetings usually dedicated to discussion, learning, and building a supportive community. We also host semesterly ally training workshops at the UCC.

History

What started as the Gay Men's Discernment Group (an LGBT support group at the UCC in the 1990s) eventually evolved into Prism, founded by Chelsea Griffo in 2008. After an on-and-off existence, the organization was revived by John Bhadelia and Jenny Pham in 2012.
